Im planning to take my cockatiel to the vet and i was wondering does my cockatiel need to know anything? Because my cockatiel doesnt know how to step up fingers and its really shy (Scared)? So do i have to teach it that for me to take it to the vet? Or the vet has some special skill and will just take the bird out? Because my bird is not tamed. D=

Your bird doesn’t need to know anything. It wouldn’t matter anyway. No matter the reason for the visit, it is going to be stressful for the bird. There is just no getting around it. The most tame, sweet and well trained bird, still doesn’t like to be handled by a stranger. It’s a rare bird indeed that will willingly step on to the finger or hand of a stranger, especially in a vets office. Don’t worry about it. Hopefully you are working with a good Avian vet and he or she will be well skilled in how to handle your bird with the least amount of stress possible.
