I don’t mean in terms of size. I just mean which breed of dog is usually the happiest sitting in a lap or with it’s head on your lap? In general.

I have a pug and she is very much a lap dog. She follows me everywhere I go, insists on sleeping on the bed with myself and my fiance, and whenever I sit down she insists on sitting/sleeping on my lap or next to me. I’ve read in pug books that pugs are very likely to be lap dogs because of their nature, so perhaps it’s true!

Oooooohhh, a poodle, or a pug. Or, a Bird dog. That’s OUR Bird dog. His name is Bird. He’s part Pekinese and part some kind of terrier.

I have 2 pugs, both girls. one black and one tawny with the mask. 2 years old and the other is 4 months. these are by far my favorite dog breed in the world. they hardly ever bark. short hair – low maintanence. cute face and a curly tail. a cute grunt like a pig. they are also very loyal. PUGS RULE!!

The personality of a dog is not determined by their breed. Just like human beings, some dogs like to cuddle, where as others just want you to leave them the hell alone unless you have a treat in your hand. If you cuddle or spend time with your puppy on your lap a lot, then it’ll grow up spending lazy hours snoozing on your lap.

I own a maltese and a Cocker Spaniel. I’ve had my maltese ever since he was a young puppy and being the new puppy and all, it spent 80% of its time in one lap or the other and snuggled underneath someones covers. Now that it’s almost 3 1/2, and he still leaps onto your lap before you can even sit down, regardless if you’re a stranger or not. Our cocker spaniel, however, was adopted when she was a little over 1 year old when we found out about her neglected past. She prefers to keep a distance from anyone or anything in general and even though she’s really a loving old dog, she growls when you try and pick her up or cuddle closer to her. If someone were to sit down on the same sofa as she’s napping on, she’ll either move to the far corner or find another place to sleep. She prefers to be more independent whereas our maltese loves to surround himself with attention.

Therefore, a lap dog can range anywhere from a Great Dane to a Chihuahua. Yes, size doesn’t matter, but neither does its breed. See these photos for proof, they’ll definitely bring a smile to your face :)

A Chihuahua. Its main purpose in life is to sit in your lap, give sweet little kisses, cheer you up when you are feeling blue, and be your best friend.

The best lap dogs have nothing to do with the breed, and everything to do with the dog’s personality and how you train and treat the dog.

Go to your local shelter and be prepared to do some personality tests. Search online for Puppy Personality Tests. You are looking for a slightly submissive personality.

And, PLEASE, DO NOT BUY A DOG- go to your local shelter and save a life. If you live in an area where the demand for dogs is high (like San Diego) just drive a little ways to another shelter to find a perfect pet for you!
